Experience an unforgettable evening of world-class jazz with acclaimed saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Ravi Coltrane, son of jazz pioneers John & Alice Coltrane, as he celebrates his father’s 100th birthday at GLAZER HALL. A Grammy-nominated artist celebrated for his distinctive voice and adventurous spirit, Coltrane has spent more than two decades shaping contemporary jazz through innovative performances, acclaimed recordings, and collaborations with some of the genre’s most influential musicians.
Ravi (named after Indian sitar legend Ravi Shankar) has forged his own remarkable artistic path while honoring a rich musical legacy. His celebrated recordings as a leader—including Moving Pictures, From the Round Box, In Flux, and Spirit Fiction—showcase his sophisticated compositions, expressive improvisation, and deep commitment to artistic exploration. Throughout his career, he has performed and recorded with jazz luminaries such as Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Terence Blanchard, Jack DeJohnette, Geri Allen, Joe Lovano, and many others.
Born on Long Island and raised in Los Angeles, Coltrane was profoundly influenced by his mother, Alice Coltrane, whose return to recording and performance he helped inspire. He later produced and performed on her acclaimed album Translinear Light, further cementing his role as both an artist and steward of an extraordinary musical heritage.
Today, Coltrane continues an active international career while leading efforts to preserve the historic John Coltrane Home in Dix Hills, New York. Join us for an evening of masterful musicianship, creative expression, and compelling artistry as Ravi Coltrane brings his powerful sound and visionary approach to the stage at GLAZER HALL!
