About

Experience an memorable evening of modern jazz at GLAZER HALL with legendary bassist, composer, and bandleader Christian McBride and his acclaimed quintet, Ursa Major.

A towering figure in contemporary music, Christian McBride is an eleven-time GRAMMY Award winner whose influence extends far beyond the bandstand. He is the Artistic Director of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), the TD James Moody Jazz Festival, and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. Renowned for his versatility, creativity, and infectious musical energy, McBride has collaborated across genres ranging from jazz and R&B to classical, hip-hop, and pop. As an educator, advocate for youth, broadcaster, and artistic director, he continues to shape the future of jazz while honoring its traditions.

In Ursa Major, McBride is joined by four rising stars: saxophonist Nicole Glover, guitarist Ely Perlman, pianist Michael King, and drummer Savannah Harris. Together, these young artists bring a fresh and compelling voice to modern jazz, blending virtuosity, imagination, and deep musical connection.

Nicole Glover’s expressive saxophone work has earned international acclaim and appearances with some of jazz’s most respected ensembles, often performing often with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Michael King’s dazzling keyboard artistry combines technical brilliance with soulful expression. Savannah Harris, one of today’s most innovative drummers, brings a unique rhythmic perspective shaped by jazz, experimental music, and global influences. Guitarist and composer Ely Perlman rounds out the group with his inventive sound, seamlessly weaving jazz, folk-inspired lyricism, and contemporary textures.

Ursa Major showcases the chemistry of five musicians at the height of their creative powers, delivering performances that are adventurous, emotionally resonant, and deeply engaging. Whether you are a lifelong jazz enthusiast or discovering the genre for the first time, this concert promises an evening of extraordinary musicianship, inspired improvisation, and unforgettable musical storytelling.
